Stewart
Lee’s Comedy Vehicle (BBC) DVD
Stewart Lee is not the type of comedian who would please the Little
Britain/Michael McIntyre loving comedy crowd.
I was both surprised and ecstatic to learn that the BBC had finally
commissioned Stewart his own TV series. It was an absolute breath
of fresh air to see intelligent comedy in a good slot on national
television. Stew did not disappoint.
This six episode series shows Stew at his best, discussing books,
television, religion, the financial crisis, political correctness
and comedy itself. Stewart Lee is probably the most sophisticated
and intelligent stand up that you’ll see today, and though all
his ideas may not be revolutionary or life-changing, the man is almost
always right! Stewart’s stand-up is supplemented with some great
sketches, look out especially for the estate agent and apple store
sketches. Incredible stuff.
What makes this DVD even more worthy of picking up is the ten minute
interviews which were originally broadcast on interactive TV after
each episode. Armando Iannucci (the man behind I’m Alan Partridge
and The Thick of It) interviewing Stewart Lee with a series of ridiculous
questions and accusations, both completely deadpan. Brilliant. The
only thing better than watching this DVD is seeing Stewart Lee live.
A must-buy.
